Impatiently waiting

I really want to get the book club book started but I have to wait for it to get returned. I should have asked when it was due back. I don't even have anything here to read that I haven't read already, well, maybe a Steven King or two, but I haven't been interested in him for a while. I've spent most of the day on my butt cuddling a sick little boy with a nasty cold coming on. Almost done with my sewing project. This one I'm doing completely by hand. It was kind of intimidating until I started it. I just figured I'd baste it together while my husband reupholstered the recliner we picked up off reuse it, but I couldn't seem to stop!

GRITS choice

My Sister's Keeper is the next book club book. It is different from what we've read so far...in several ways. It's fiction, but not fantastic. It's drama, but not mystery. I'm looking forward to our local library getting it back so I can begin it. I even reserved a copy on tape for my brother who joined us this meeting. He keeps saying I dragged him along and that he's not going back but I'm not going to let him punk us out. We had 2 more members join us as well. Three of the others did not come, but I and my trusty sidekick were the two loyal who came. I sent a text to my cousin asking her straight out to make me a moderator for our yahoo group so I can add our meetings to the calendar and send out invitations. I haven't heard back yet but I hope she agrees.

I've been learning to sew and I have discovered that I love it! I've been begging old clothes to modify and rework to find out what my limitations are. My trusty sidekick/big sis/bff gave me this truly awesome dress that was falling apart at the seams. I have it torn up and cut up already with what I consider to be a really great idea for it. I sure hope it works out since I don't have a pattern and am just a beginner. Of course it may take a while for me to work it up because my dh has taken over my sewing machine doing re-upholstery work. He's pretty good. He recovered my piano bench, made cushions for a folding canvas chair that was falling apart, fashioned a backpack for our son, and made a pillow just for fun before beginning the large job on a recliner we were offered on the reuse it group. The large downside is that I can't see my living room floor anymore.

"E-X-I-T, exit!"

My little prince isn't yet 4 but knows the word on the sign above doors! We're working on writing and recognizing his name since I can see that he knows his letters well enough to recognize words. If his preschool doesn't start this year I'm going to try the homeschool thing with him and see how that goes. Since it's preschool it' won't matter much if it doesn't work, but I'm looking forward to seeing what he learns.

weekend

My sil sent me a text the other day asking what I was doing this weekend. I was free and told her so, so she asked if I wanted a photo opp. Well of course! So dh and I drove an hour and a half to a church reunion of her parent's and took pictures of the people there. We weren't sure how many people would be there. We were told anywhere between 50 and 200. I expected 50 and hoped for 200. I was right. But, we made a few dollars there and got our name out. It was fun, though it lasted the entire day for us. The actual event was only a few hours long, but we left early and stopped on the way home to get a few things. Today will be a day of printing and creating.

I did it!

I finally completed the Little Prince's shirt and shorts duo I've been learning to sew. I've found I rather enjoy it. Something to do with watching a piece come together is satisfying.

preschool delay

Due to lack of funding, my little prince's preschool may be starting late, or not at all. They're waiting for funding approval before they start, but they say that it may not occur at all. I'm sad about that.

Family Reunion

Yesterday was the family reunion for my husband's side of the family. Unfortunately he was nursing a migraine so couldn't go. It wasn't held very far from home so I drove myself and the little prince. Google maps is available on my phone so I used it to get there, having never driven in the area myself and having never visited the cousin's home. Google maps is usually found to be reliable, but the version on my phone has a lot to be desired. I used it once before to get to a friend's house and it had me looking on the wrong side of the road. This time, not only was I looking on the wrong side of the road, I was traveling 1.7 miles down the road to find it when the house is standing next to the corner trading post at the intersection! After passing the place 3 times, my cousin steps out into the road and waves her arms as I approached town again. I almost ran out of gas. That's not to mention the return trip where I turned right instead of left and ended up in another city entirely. A 25 minute trip took me 1.25 hours. But at least there was a gas station there! Gas was also 7 cents cheaper there than in my hometown.

So visiting with family was great. There weren't very many attenders and I feel bad that the table was almost groaning out loud with the weight of the food that was prepared for the occasion. (I had forgotten my potato salad at home, but didn't feel bad about it when I saw the spread!) I snapped pictures of everybody doing everything. It was also a celebration for one member's birthday so there was cake and ice cream. I think the highlight was when my little Prince decided to overbalance while trying to put a stick into the tube that fountain water was bubbling out of in the backyard pond and fell in face first. Luckily 1) the area he was in was only 1.5 ft deep, 2) Cousin K was standing next to him when he fell and snatched him up right quick, and 3) it didn't bother little Prince Charming one iota. In fact, he almost fell in 2 more times before the end of the day. He had to wear our cousin's tshirt until his own clothes were dry.
